Political Activism

Van spoke out against Obama Care and Common Core, and their Chief promoter, then-Governor Brewer, who has always claimed to be a GOP Conservative, but her support of Common Core and Obama Care give us a truer picture of whom she really is.

Van and others spoke out against Dr. Ward’s Amendment to HB 2184 in the AZ Senate Ed Committee. In spite of their testimony, AZ GOP Senators voted for GOP Leadership and Dr. Ward’s Amended HB 2184 Bill–which was directed by Sen. President Biggs and Gov. Ducey–the goal being to strip authority from the State Supt. of Public Instruction. The bill passed in the Senate, but, with great influence from citizen lobbyists and activists, was killed in the House. If passed it would have handed-over authority to the Governor’s appointed, and already unconstitutionally empowered State Board of Education; no different than Obama’s “Czars” appointed to Federal Positions. . . . You can’t do the will of the people taking orders from the GOP Leadership in AZ or DC!

Van also spoke to several of the legislators about PROP 123, privately and at LD meetings, asking them if they knew they were violating the Original AZ Land Trust and none seemed to understand that. The basis for the Trust is the Enabling Act and that had to be changed before any such legislation could be passed altering it, but . . . no matter, the AZ Legislators followed Governor Ducey’s directive and found a way to pay a bill that We, the People did not owe, and appear to be heroes to some.

Teachers were promised higher raises, however received very little due to the way the money was allocated, this occurred due to “The public school system superintendents’ current incentive was to get extra money for their immediate needs, and they had no interest in future Arizona students.” This is once again typical of our elected officials: no Long-Term Planning or Courage to take on Real Issues and Solve them. The false promises of AZ Politicians in AZ’s Own Political Swamp!

We knew one lawsuit would change the outcome, and said so, but AZ’s legislators didn’t want to hear it, and, now, the Federal Court has ruled PROP 123 illegal. And, We, the People may have to pay back the monies they took out and spent–just more of the same: Do what you’re told to do by the Governor.

The Cornerstone of a Great State and Country is Education and AZ is failing their children by not making Long Term Changes in Education. We must see to it that Funds are properly Allocated enabling AZ to Hire the Best Qualified Teachers, who’d inspire through innovation and inspiration stimulating and challenging our children.  Arizona presently ranks 50th in the nation for elementary teachers and 49th for high school teachers.

Federal Interference in State Education

The Federal Dept. of Ed is an Unconstitutional Dept. and the States must move forward to improve the Education and Futures of our Children without their interference.

Here’s another dilemma in recent developments: The massive racial database being established from Obama and Congress’ reauthorized ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) arising from the reconciliation of HR 5 and S 1177 (now ESSA), and the details of Obama’s “comprehensive” database, data collection; all included in the ESSA—I don’t believe anyone could write effective legislation at the State level to stop this.

Presently the only way to prevent private data collection (in the area of education) is to refuse all federal education-related grants and monies—including school lunch, Title I, vocational grants, etc. If a State accepts any federal dollars under ESSA, it will override all state legislation enacted to prevent the collection of private data—which both HR 5 and S 1177 require.

AZ GOP Senator McCain and GOP Congressmen voted in favor of these bills [the prime sponsor was GOP’s Lamar Alexander (R-TN)]. If this analysis is an accurate reflection of the ESSA, as the reauthorized ESSA, old state legislation to stop data gathering will be ineffective. We’ve been betrayed at the Federal and State Levels by those elected to Protect US and Our Children! So it’s now up to US to do it for them!Click and Read Article:

We know the insidious “Common Core State Standards Initiative,” program introduced in AZ Schools beginning in 2010, by the Federal Government through the AZ Department of Ed, is going to lead to more Federal Intrusion. Such as, gathering of Data–including pupils’ personally identifiable information, and more. While once again using the Taxpayers Monies to bribe States to accept and promote it!

Illegal Immigration costs AZ $2.5 Billion annually over-all! And, to Education, One issue arising from this invasion that must be settled–the costs to AZ (not only in Dollars, but also in over-crowded classrooms), including time spent with non-English-speaking pupils, which is time not dedicated to your child, and a drain to the economy in general.

This helps shrink the size of State Government by no longer filling out the forms required just to manage the Federal Mandates, with over 100 separate programs that come with “strings,” at a cost of up to 45% to administer. So, even though there’s an influx of monies from the Federal Government to the States, the Cost of implementing the mandates adds to states debts and grows Government by allowing the Federal Government control over States. Please remember this, School Choice is not just a theory:
“All  private schools that do participate thereby become public schools, as such schools are defined under the new system, even though you may believe you’ve escaped Federal Control, your Children are now in the Governments Web!”

Consider the Dollars that Float out, and how many people float into the system, then, ask the question: Does AZ have the Rights retained by We the People in the several States, to run our Educational system without Federal Interference as laid-out in the US Constitution?

We as citizens must have the ability to decide what’s best for our children in Our State, County, City or Township, this includes all public schools–district and charter–which should be regulated within the individual states.

I know in business before finding a solution to the problem you first had to identify it, and for Education, it’s easy to see most don’t want to discuss the real problems and only want temporary solutions, usually meaning, just throw more money at it and everyone will be happy, but this so-called solution hasn’t solved the problems and won’t! So lets see if together we can find some real solutions that will benefit the Children–not some Bureaucrat or Politician just looking for a vote and not to the future.

I’d like to point out that we need Real Change from TOP to BOTTOM; this will be painful. But, in the End, I believe will prove to give the Children a much Brighter Future. I also believe sometimes to fix things we need to look back to what’s worked in the past, update it, and move forward. Has anyone noticed the Education system America once had won 2 World Wars, Landed us on the Moon, and gave us all the Tech we enjoy today? This may give some an indication of what I’d like to see happen–at least in AZ, which I believe would be the Model for the U.S.A., in the future.

Take a look at this video, as I do believe this must be the Foundation of all AZ Schools, whether Public (District or Charter), or Private, who receive State Funds. Link:

I’ll submit legislation, and/or, join with AZ’s office of state superintendent of public instruction,  submitting Legislation in the AZ Legislature, and when passed, form a coalition of U.S. and AZ Legislators to Restore Control of Education from the Federal Government; returning AZ’s jurisdiction over AZ  Communities’ Schools!

The AZ State Constitution–will lead us to the best decisions for our children if the legislators would simply follow the AZ Constitution, rather than directions from the Gov. and lobbyists. We must once again be the responsible persons in the Education of Our Children, not the Federal Government. We must adhere to the U.S. Constitution and reclaim our 9th and 10th Amendment Rights, if we plan to be a Free People!

Education Improves the Future- I come from the private business community, I’ve spoken with federal, local and statewide elected officials concerning this issue. They all agree we need to fix the system. But we haven’t seen any real action from those in office! I realize some say we need to implement a program that would actually allow the monies sent to a state to follow the child no matter what type of school; Public (District or Charter), Private, Home School, etc.

I agree with the monies following the pupil since they are paid by the parent, and the goal must be to eliminate the federal system completely, having the Citizens in each State make that decision through their local state government not from D. C.

I know the latest efforts by the #RedforEd movement, along with the Governor and Legislators temporary fix, will more than likely fail once again as it has no Teeth; just as the Bill to stop Ballot Harvesting had no Teeth. I have a Business Plan to Fund the K-12 and Restore P.E., Shops/Trades, from Jr. High through High School to give those who graduate immediate access to High-paying Jobs, restructure how monies are Dispersed to Districts, and, of course, to fix one source of Funding promised to K–12 and not Delivered.

I believe this will Fix the Ed system in AZ and make it a Model for the Nation. My concerns for the Kids who are like myself who aren’t wired for College to get a True Opportunity to Achieve their Dreams whatever they might be, and to Stop Bureaucrats and Lobbyists, along with the aid of Politicians, from Preventing all of us Aiding the Kids in their Goals.

As an interim step, terminate the government practice of sending checks to school districts, the linchpin practice that enshrines the government school monopoly. Instead, follow existing Arizona state law (ARS 1-601, 1-602) that affirms parents—not schools, not government—as the final authority in all matters of a pupil’s upbringing, education, health care, and mental health. Send the money to parents of schoolchildren that can only be used for Education. Parents will decide which school (private, home school or government) is best for their children.

This will restore our educational system to our children to truly prepare them for a brighter future! It will also help our teachers receive better pay and incentive to focus on education.

We must get K-12 district consolidation/unification on the 2018 ballot, as it’s a budget saver, reducing the number of boards increases the chances of getting highly-qualified individuals in-place. We must have Local School Districts corroborate with the Local Educators, Parents and Citizens to set Statewide Standards and Systems in coordination with AZ State Legislators–who have the ultimate responsibility for the public school system.

We must implement other improvements as well, such as more Online Education, Tech and Trades training on our 7 to 12 Grade, School Campuses. We already have the pupils on Campuses; no need to transport them elsewhere, or have them wait until finishing the 12th Grade, this just increases the already inflated costs.

College Education and the Cost: We must revamp any state system when it comes to student loans. One example is anyone applying for a loan must first be shown the availability of securing a position that will allow paying the debt upon receiving a degree, and if the odds of gainful employment in a specific field are slim-to-none, no loan will be granted.

We’ll give college credits to those entering already having relevant life and/or work experience, ending the waste of time by teachers and students already trained and with acquired knowledge.

We must also look closely at how our schools individually purchase supplies of all types; coming from the Free Enterprise system I’d suggest a Main Procurement Office, where all orders flow in to buy in Bulk direct from manufacturers, then ship directly to each school, removing all middle-men and thereby removing costs. Also, by purchasing in Bulk, we lower costs from 25 to 40 percent. The savings could be passed on to the Classrooms directly, by first of all paying for all supplies for K thru 6th grade, and then, for Teachers raises and cost of living increases only–not to mention removing the graft that’s in the system at present. We could also use the monies from the AZ lands when returned to AZ from the Federal Gov. to fund AZ Education by monies brought in by their management rather than the PILT system at present,

I want the AZ Legislature to mandate the Percentage of Monies and how they’re spent, as far too much goes to upper management; this must be turned around by simply applying the allowed Percentage to go to Management, Supplies, Vehicles etc., and, if correctly calculated, thereby would guarantee at least 60% to the teachers and classrooms.

I have other Free Market ideas when it comes to better-funding our schools; I hope for your support in the 2018 Primary in LD 22. In asking this of you, I’m willing to attend meetings to listen to you and your ideas as well, no matter what your political affiliation is, as I hope all truly want a better Future for Our Children and not just another political issue to run on; it’s time for thoughtful discussions.

Laws Must Be Changed

I do believe the State should get more involved, but would have to revoke all laws concerning education that are in Violation of the AZ Constitution first, because AZ’s Constitution set the parameters by which AZ’s public school system functions. Or, rather, as it should function! We need to take a step back and read the AZ Constitution as written and apply it to gutting the ARS Title 15; returning the Responsibility for establishing and maintaining the public school system to our State Legislators.

The Governor must understand the Constitutional Limitation of his Office regarding the public school system, which extends only to nominating members of the State Board of Education and signing or vetoing the legislation enacted by AZ’s legislators. And, the AZ legislators must begin to act on their AZ Constitutional Responsibility as well, rather than consistently passing the buck to others.

The school boards have a great deal of power, and, far too often are nothing more than rubber stamps for the superintendents. This is where the Teachers & Parents need to focus their attention; not at the State Capitol. The Parents/Voters must bring about the change at the Local Level to benefit the children, or, solicit the State to do so, as it seems to me the School Districts up to now are unable or unwilling to make the necessary/needed changes.

Closing Comments

We won’t support AZ Legislators who passed legislation putting Prop 123 on the Ballot to Raid the AZ Land Trust fund, along with the Billions stolen from Future Pupils of the Arizona Schools, and the money didn’t end-up in the Teachers’ pay once again!

The false promises of AZ Politicians in AZ’s Own Political Swamp! We need Real change in AZ Politics and the only way I see to get this done is by running to replace those Short-Sited Politicians.

In Closing, I believe Election Cycles are Critical for our Nation and State as to whether we sink deeper into a Socialist Nation, or Restore Ourselves to a True Republican Form of Government.

The choices are clear: Never vote for anyone who votes against, or compromises, the U.S. or AZ Constitutions . . . as Our Freedoms are at stake! I believe compromising Our Freedoms is actually what most of them are hoping for and the  Elite Power Brokers are working toward! [Time to Drain the Political Swamps!]

God Bless You All; Clair Van Steenwyk
